These are Guided Geology and/ or Wildlife Walks, led by Gus who is a Geology and Wildlife expert.

  • Both series of walks are dependent on weather conditions and therefore could be postponed at short notice.
  • Decent footwear should be worn, and wet weather clothing if necessary
  • Bring lunch and drink

WILDLIFE Walks: Christine and Gus have been running ad-hoc walks, some later in October which is a good time to see birds in particular as it is during the start of the migration season.

Walk lengths are no longer than a couple of miles. Bringing your own binoculars is useful but we have a high-powered spotting scope designed for the job to give people close views.

  • Previous walks we have had:
    • around Breney Common to see dragonflies and butterflies
    • around Boscowan Park in Truro to see wading birds
    • from Wadebridge along the Camel Trail (in both directions)

Most of the walks are suitable for people of all abilities and some are easily reached by bus.

GEOLOGY walks: are normally for people who do not have mobility issues as they tend to cover relatively uneven terrain. Gus is an eminent geologist and can tell the age of every rock and pebble on the beach and where it has come from.

We have have several very interesting geological walks, including:

  • the Great Fat Lode and King Edward Mine near Redruth
  • various geological walks in Bodmin Moor around Minions
  • local geological walks at Watergate Bay, Fistral and Towan Headland
  • to Cligga Head and back from Perranporth was a particularly good walk as it includes mining remains (with the option of collecting mineral specimens) and a former explosives factory as well as stunning coastal scenery.
